So, remember when I said that I will be posting anything and everything that’s on my mind? So here’s the back story behind this post. I have decided to read at least one book every month from this month on. And the first book I read as part of my War Campaign against ‘Very Long Screen Time’ is a little book called
“Source Code – Book 1
The inhabitants of the uninhabited island” by Ekat Rin
This is one book I read without any preconceptions. If anything, I started reading this book confused about what domain the book actually belonged in. Also, this would be the first book I read after a very very long time. The story began from the point of view of a techie who had just finished a project that no one else would undertake. But as the story moves on, it brings in elements like family, love, jealousy, adventure, and magic. I can honestly say that I haven’t read many books that have meld in all these elements together in a realistic manner. The story is a very soft thriller. It starts slow and picks up pace very slowly too. The slow pace can be justified as this is supposed to be the first book of what could be a very long and colorful series.
The ending definitely leaves the readers wanting to know what happens next. It has all the ingredients to kickstarts a very great series. I loved the characters and their personalities. The possible love story of George and Sandy is quite enticing and I’d love to know more about Maggie’s dream of the code snippet and its relevance in the story. As for the character that I’d like to see more in the next book….it’s Bead. The little dog has an oracle-like aura to his character. An all-knowing, sage-like ambiance.
Ekat Rin has done a good job with the book. I’d go so far as to say that the beginnings of the book made me feel like I was reading a Dan-Brown thriller.
Looking forward to the next one.
